PD0284). Unique Identifier : AIDSLINE ICA10/94370646 AB OBJECTIVES: to raise awareness and provide basic elements to members of NGOs on the issue of vaccine trials and organization of cohorts in Brazil, in order to follow up, criticize, support and give autonomous opinions on the subject. METHODS: communication group exercises. Initially we discuss about feelings and previous experiences on other vaccines, introducing the concepts of therapeutic, prophylactic, efficacy, access. Then we expose basic facts on vaccine trials (Phases I/II/III, etc) and the process in Brazil. Afterwards we discuss some examples of informed consent and the role of NGOs. Finally we ask to fill a questionnaire for evaluation. RESULTS: In 1993 we performed six workshops with 10 participants each (average). The evaluation showed the will and need for further discussion in and among NGOs and with health Institutions. DISCUSSIONS & CONCLUSIONS: health workers showed increasing interest on the workshop which could be also useful for members of cohorts.
